DOCTOR: Consults Same Day or Bring Back


POLICY: Every team member must be on the same page when it comes to all areas of concern in the practice, especially consults. Not only do we want to increase the chances that the patient schedules their next appointment for necessary treatment, but we also want to impress upon them our sincere care for their dental health and overall well-being.

Scenario: Don is a new patient in need of a partial crown on #14. He has been shown the intraoral images of the tooth in the operatory and the doctor has explained why the situation is urgent and the potential risks of leaving the tooth untreated for even a few weeks longer. Don seems relieved to inform the doctor that he has a plumber coming to his house in 20 minutes and needs to leave shortly. How would you handle the sendoff of this patient to increase the chances that he returns for a consultation?
