Why Trying to Hire the Perfect Employee is a Huge Mistake

How many perfect people do you imagine are scanning ads for dental jobs? If you guessed somewhere between zero and few, you are right.

Managers make the mistake of writing job ads to attract the perfect employee when they should be writing to attract a great employee.

Let me explain. If you load your ad with super-specific requirements you will lose out on the opportunity to interview great applicants.

Writing an ad that will attract the PERFECT candidate will disqualify that great employee from applying.

We want the best of the best, so start out by making a list of the qualities and skills of the perfect candidate.

Include everything in this list: personal traits, front office skills, dental training and work experience. Then, remind yourself that no one is perfect.

Next, take your list and rank the qualities.

Rank them in order from most to least important. Label ‘must have’ and ‘good to have’ qualities.

Then, write your ad.

Keep in mind potential candidates are prioritizing too. Include information showing traits of your amazing office and staff.

Our next article will tell you what to write to attract that great employee, stay tuned!
