7 Tips To Implementing Training In Your Office
New Hire Training should be minimum of one hour a day
Existing employee training should be 1 hour a week
- Share the “Why” & Get Buy-In. Identify and communicate the why behind implementing training. Discuss the best way to implement the training in your practice and find out what your team would like to learn or improve upon. Team members are more likely to buy in if they know the reason why they are doing the training.
- Lead by example. You need to make it a cultural change which means everyone does an hour of training, even the doctors. Put someone in charge. If there is not someone managing this, it just won’t happen.
- Put it on your schedule. Nothing will happen if it is not scheduled and schedule it out a year in advance so it is there before production fills the spot. If it falls out, bring it back as soon as you notice. Everyone falls out of practice on things. If you find that the training stopped happening at one time or another, figure out why, fix it and then get it back into the habit again asap
- Book it first thing in the morning or after lunch. No one will be able to easily step away from production to do training. Have to make it before they get sucked into the day
- Set up a training area. Training needs to be done outside of the production area. Set aside a consult room, break room, office area where team members can go and do training without getting pulled into the daily production going on during that time
- Share what you learn and discuss it. The best way to make learning stick is to either teach others or discuss how you want to implement what you learned into your office. Set aside time to discuss the learning with the team in team meetings.
- Get creative and have fun. If the team looks at this as one more thing to do, they won’t all enjoy or value it. Make it fun and find ways to implement it creatively in your office. it is not one size fits all for how to implement training. You have to want it and make it work for your office and team, if you want to see amazing results.
